Francis Barnard travels to Spain when he learns that his sister Elizabeth has died. Her husband Nicolás Medina, the son of the Spanish Inquisition’s most brutal torturer, tells him that she died of a blood disease, but Francis finds it hard to believe. After some investigation, he learns that it was an extreme fear that was fatal to his sister, and that she may have been buried alive!
